I’m Professor L, and I created this site to help college students, returning learners, and lifelong writers strengthen their skills one step at a time. Whether you’re brushing up on grammar or refining full-length essays, you’ll find clear lessons, self-paced practice, and practical tools to support your writing journey.

What are the Tiers?
The Lab is built around 7 tiers of writing instruction. Each tier focuses on a specific set of skills:
Tier 1: Foundations – sentence parts, punctuation, agreement
Tier 2: Sentence Skills – combining, avoiding fragments and run-ons
Tier 3: Paragraphs – topic sentences, transitions, focus
Tier 4: Essay Structure – intros, body paragraphs, conclusions
Tier 5: Style – tone, variety, clarity, rhetorical tools
Tier 6 (In development): Research & Citation
Tier 7 (In development): Advanced Rhetoric & Argument
The Access Levels below are focused so that students get the support they need to improve the skills they need for their writing.
